DENTAL IMPLANTS

A dental implant is a small zirconia screw that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a natural tooth. Dental implants can be placed in both the upper and lower jaw. The properties of titanium actually fuse with the bone to become an anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants can be a solution for replacing single or multiple teeth.

Why Implants?

There are a number of good reasons to consider dental implants. Without the root of a tooth present, the jawbone can actually shrink, causing the face to look older than it is. With an implant, there are no loose parts to worry about. It is stable and comfortable. No adjustment is generally needed after placement. It’s customary for an implant to serve its owner for life.

Who is an Implant Candidate?

Anyone who is missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease, or tooth decay may be a candidate for dental implants. The primary determining factor is the amount of available bone. An evaluation is the best first step to determining whether implants are a viable solution for you.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Improved appearance: When you lose an entire tooth – crown and root – your jawbone can shrink, aging your face. Dental implants stop this process, unlike traditional dentures or bridges.

Preserve natural teeth: With traditional dental bridges, teeth adjacent to missing teeth are ground down to be used as anchors for the bridge. Dental implants eliminate the need to modify healthy teeth.

Permanent solution: There are no loose parts to worry about and the implant is stable and comfortable. There is generally no adjustment needed after the initial placement.

Will my new teeth look natural?

When dental implants are used in conjunction with modern restorative dentistry, their appearance, comfort, and function is very likely to exceed your expectations. They are often hard to tell apart from natural teeth.

Is the treatment painful?

With any surgical procedure, there is some discomfort, and placing several teeth generally causes more discomfort than just one. Anesthesia and patient sedation are commonly administered to help reduce any discomfort. Most patients report being much more comfortable during the procedure than they anticipated.
